Fun!

An Xtra Happy Birthday; 18 June

Greetings to Norway and Latvia!

Yesterday we celebrated two birthday girls, Justyna and Daana. There are two Eurovision birthdays to celebrate today as well, but on this summer Wednesday we bring you one birthday boy and one girl. The guy finished top 10 with his band, while the girl unfortunately didn’t qualify for the final. One gave us a beautiful ballad, the other is a rocker through and through; We give you Wig Wam’s Flash!

Flash (Wig Wam), 52

Bernt Jansen, also known as Flash, represented Norway at the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv. He did so as part of the glam rock band Wig Wam. Flash is the band’s bass player. They performed the song “In My Dreams”, finishing 6th in the semi-final, thus sailing through to the grand final. Despite being one of the pre-contest favorites to win, they only finished in a mildly disappointing 9th place. Nonetheless this is a very good result, especially considering Norway’s last place the previous year.
Fun fact 1: “In My Dreams” became a massive hit in Iceland, and is to this day the foreign Eurovision song most likely to be picked as people’s favorite. Perhaps second to “Euphoria” Perhaps.
Fun fact 2: Wig Wam sure knew their audience! They adopted “Rock is the new schläger” as their slogan after winning Melodi Grand Prix!
This wasn’t their first attempt at Wig Wam also took part in Melodi Grand Prix in 2004, without the same success. They finished in third place with “Crazy Things“.

Laura Rizzotto, 24

Laura Rizzotto represented Latvia at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon. She performed her beautiful song, “Funny Girl”, in the second semi-final. She unfortunately finished in 12th place, thus failing to qualify for the grand final.

All of us here at escXtra wish Laura and Flash the very happiest of birthdays!
