ESCXTRA: Live from Rotterdam🇳🇱 Netherlands

🇳🇱 Postcard locations for semifinal two revealed

From a quarry to the Wadden Islands - more iconic landmarks from the Netherlands

After watching the dress rehearsals for the second semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021, we now know where the countries’ postcards are based. We also know the postcard locations for France, the United Kingdom and Spain. The locations range from the host city of Rotterdam to the tiny village of Vinkel.

The postcard concept

In these postcards, we see a clear concept. A tiny glass house is placed somewhere in the Netherlands. All locations are landmarks or interesting cities in the country. All of the delegations have had the opportunity to fill their glass house with items relating to the singer. Greece for example make clever use of Stefania and her heritage. Not only do they show her Greek passport, they also showcase her Dutch one, as well as a table full of Greek deliciousness, such as dolmades.

Just like on Tuesday, we see holograms of the acts. Sometimes we see them undertaking some sort of activity. Vincent Bueno is one of those, as he is shown ice skating. His postcard is located in the town of Nannewiid, during winter time when there was enough ice to go skating there.

More appearances for Rotterdam and Amsterdam

The two cities making new appearances after also popping up on Tuesday are Amsterdam and Rotterdam. No surprises there, as they are the capital city and this year’s host city of the Eurovision Song Contest. However, our first act of the night does not get a postcard in either of these cities. San Marino has a postcard in Eindhoven. Their location is the conference center and former science museum Evoluon.

Amsterdam do feature for Iceland. Daði og Gagnamagnið won’t perform live tonight, but their postcard is an interesting one. It was recorded at a skating facility at the Zeeburgereiland in Amsterdam. Rotterdam features twice, with Georgia finding themselves back in Europe’s largest seaport, which is based in the outskirts of the city. Finally, Switzerland recorded their postcard near the iconic Erasmusbrug, also in Rotterdam.

Nature and obscure landmarks

Runner-up in the host city race for 2020 Maastricht also features in a postcard tonight. Anxhela Peristeri from Albania plays her violin in the city centre of the southern city. We see images of the Sint Servaasbrug and the Vrijthof in the Albanian postcard. There are also some natural landmarks that we’ll see tonight, including the Nije Hemelrijk in Gasselte for the United Kingdom and the sand drift in Doornspijk for Spain. Also making an appearance is the Wadden Island of Schiermonnikoog, which features in the Moldovan postcard.

Like on Tuesday, we also see smaller, more unfamiliar towns. The Observatory Halley in the tiny town of Vinkel, outside of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, was a surprise, as was the field in Agelo. Greece and Bulgaria have their postcards there. The southern town of Heerlen is also there, with Finland recording their postcard at the Sibelco Groeve – Oranje Nassau IV Mijn, a quarry.
