When you’re driving to a place which is not around the corner, there’s no better song than a song about that place far away. Just imagine you’re going on holiday to some really great place far from where you are. You just need Loin D’Ici there.

My ultimate road trip song is ‘Zaleilah’ by Mandinga. This song is always the first Eurovision tune I put on when the sun comes out – always the best time for a road trip when you can wind down the windows and feel the warm breeze. The use of Spanish along with the unique Romanian eurodance sound their compatriot Inna made so famous across the continent just makes ‘Zaleilah’ the perfect song to blast out the car speakers on that hot summer day (admittedly quite a rare occasion here in the UK)! Who See – Igranka I used to have a red car back in Italy that was horrible to drive and fall apart easily. We are not red car people in my family, so it felt exotic and risky. I decided to give it a name and I called it Igranka, as it would have eventually brought to parties – as the song says. The car has now been sold. I don’t miss it.

My ultimate road trip song would be “In Love for a While” by Anna Rossinelli. I picked it because the instrumental of the song is so calm, it has a catchy tune and it fits so much for a road trip. It cheers me up and always puts me in a good mood and it just makes me wanna hum all along everytime I listen to it.

For my ultimate roadtrip song I decided to choose Douwe Bob’s Slow Down (Netherlands 2016). I’ll be honest, I don’t listen to it that often, but I think the relaxing, yet not monotonous melody matches the mood of a roadtrip perfectly (especially the vibes you get from the guitar). Other than that, we all know how important it is to drive carefully, and what’s better than having a song remind you to “slow down if you can’t go on”?

A road trip calls for one thing. A song everyone can sing along to! And what better song than the Celine Dion classic “Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi” not only that but isn’t the message perfect for a road trip! You don’t want everyone to leave with out you! Soaring notes and a driving beat make this not only a perfect sing along but a perfect driving song. But let’s be honest. Celine is perfect for any occasion – am I right?

The song that gave Denmark its only victory in the 2000s makes a perfect roadtrip song. I can assure you that all those hours sitting in a car will be way more pleasant with ‘Fly On The Wings Of Love’ playing in the background. So remember, the Olsen Brothers’ hit is an essential choice when you create your next roadtrip playlist.

My Ultimate Eurovision road trip song has to be Malta’s entry from 2013: FireLight’s Coming Home. It just feels very roady to me. Perhaps more of a road trip back home above all, but still can imagine this being played in the car.

This pick is almost impossible, since there are about a fantazillion Eurovision entries that I love listening to while out driving. I guess I‘ll go with my favorite „play very loudly with windows down while singing along even louder“-song, and that is Zauvijek moja. I love this song for so many reasons, but the „sing slong as loudly as you possibly can“-factor is a very important part of why I chose this one. Pretty it ain‘t (when I sing slong, that is…), but soooooo much fun!

There are of course plenty of songs that you can play during a roadtrip. But when driving on a long road, either early in the morning or late in the evening, its good to have one of your favorite “cheerful” entries playing to help you stay alert.
