When you think of Slovenian success at Eurovision, there are a few songs that spring to mind. Perhaps, Nuša Derenda’s Energy is one of them. Or maybe Maja Keuc’s No One? Indeed, you may be a long-term Eurovision fan and think back to Darja Švajger’s Prisluhni mi? Darja and Nuša are Slovenia’s most successful participants in the adult contest with their 7th place finishes. Nevertheless, the country’s best Eurovision result came from Junior Eurovision. In 2015, Lina Kuduzović finished in 3rd place in the contest hosted in Sofia. Now, the young Slovenian superstar is wowing judges on a brand new show!
Lina to become The Voice of Germany?
The fifth season of The Voice Kids in Germany recently commenced on Sat.1 with a judging line-up of Mark Forster, Nena & Larissa and Sascha Schmitz. Nena & Larissa have replaced former Eurovision winner Lena, who took part in the first four seasons of the show, in the line-up. On today’s episode of the show, Junior Eurovision’s very own Lina Kuduzović auditioned for the show. Her performance of Christina Aguilera’s Hurt wowed all of the judges who all wanted Lina to join their team! While we wait for Lina’s performance to be uploaded in full, you can watch this clip from Lina’s Instagram page:
Putting the talent into talent shows
Lina has taking part in various talent shows during her career so far. At the age of just 6, Lina’s first major competition was a Slovenian children’s music show called Vrata med zvezdami. While Lina didn’t reach a high placing, on her official website she acknowledges that she received significant exposure from the competition. As a result, she received an invitation to perform at a charity concert.
In 2010, now 7-years-old, Lina auditioned for the first season of Slovenia’s Got Talent. After sailing through each stage of the competition, Lina was crowned the winner after performing Jennifer Rush’s The Power of Love in the grand final. After moving to Switzerland to live, Lina returned to the Got Talent series in early 2015 by entering Switzerland’s Got Talent. She reached the final once again, performing a cover of Demi Lovato’s Skyscraper during that final.
Later that year 12-year-old Lina entered Mini EMA, Slovenia’s national selection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. She was victorious with her Maraaya-composed entry Prva ljubezen (First Love) and immediately became a fan favourite. As previously mentioned, Lina finished in 3rd place at the contest. Therefore, she became Slovenia’s most successful Eurovision representative ever! In addition, Lina took part in the 2016 International Festival of Language and Culture in Romania. Maybe, she’ll add another fantastic result to her portfolio during her time on The Voice Kids in Germany?
Good luck Lina, and we hope to see you in the adult Eurovision in the future!
