Lisbon 2018

Linda Zervakis and Elton to host Unser Lied für Lissabon!

On 22 February in Berlin, Germany’s Unser Lied für Lissabon will take place. The show will feature six acts competing for the right to represent Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal. Now, the two hosts of the show have been announced: Linda Zervakis and Elton!

Linda Zervakis – news reporter and music connoisseur

Linda Zervakis is very familiar with music, although she has never worked with Eurovision before. Her career started in radio at NDR, and later appeared on television several times with “Experiment mit Linda Zervakis”.

“I’m happy to be able to announce the result from Berlin!”

Elton – Eurovision lover

To balance out Linda’s lack of experience in Eurovision, we have Elton. He was with Lena for her victory in Oslo in 2010, reporting from Norway for TV Total. Even before that, in 2004, he followed Stefan Raab to Istanbul and has been his sidekick for years since.

Elton is now part of Das Erste’s quiz show “Wer weiß denn sowas?” or “Who knows what?” in English, and hosts “Die Superpauker”.

“It’s not just my Eurovision experience with Max Mutzke in Istanbul and Lena in Oslo and Düsseldorf that has prepared me well as the Unser Lied für Lissabon host; even as a football fan, I’m an expert when it comes to singing for points!”

Barbara Schöneberger – singer and….oh wait

Barbara Schöneberger has hosted the Unser Lied shows since 2014 and was expected to continue this year. However, she is unable to host the show this year due to scheduling issues. Perhaps we’ll see her back again next year!

Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest

Germany is one of the few countries which has participated in every single Eurovision Song Contest ever!

They have won the contest twice, first in 1982 with Nicole’s Ein bisschen Frieden, and then in 2010 with Lena’s Satellite. However, Germany has also come last seven times, and twice in the last three years.

Last year, in Kyiv, Ukraine, Levina represented Germany with her song Perfect Life. Despite being the first song since 2014 to not come in last place for Germany, she only managed to reach second to last place with 6 points.

What do you think of these new hosts? Are you looking forward to Unser Lied für Lissabon? Should Germany have worked harder to keep Barbara Schöneberger?
