The show began back in October, but we are now just two days away from knowing the winner of the latest season of HaKokhav HaBa L’Eirovizion! The winner of the show will represent Israel in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. Following tonight’s semi-final, we now know who the four finalists are!
From six to four
Six artists took part in this evening’s semi-final. Following a series of duels, the four finalists are as follows:
- Chen Aharoni
- Jonathan Mergui
- Netta Barzilai
- Riki Ben Ari
Therefore, the two artists to fall at the final hurdle and won’t be taking part in Tuesday’s final are as follows:
- Eden Meiri
- Howie Danao
Song submissions are open
The final of HaKokhav HaBa L’Eirovizion will take place on Tuesday evening. The winner of the show will then be matched up with a song submitted to the Israeli broadcaster. An open call for songs was launched at the beginning of this month and closes on February 19th. Songwriters may submit up to two entries.
Once the submissions process closes, a panel consisting of representatives of the Israel Broadcasting Corporation and Keshet Broadcasting will listen to the songs without any information about who has written the song. Eventually, a song will be paired with the winner of HaKokhav HaBa L’Eirovizion and this will become the Israeli entry in Lisbon!
This is the fourth consecutive year that Israel has used The Next Star to determine the Israeli representative. So far, all three winners of the show – Nadav Guedj, Hovi Star and Imri Ziv – have gone on to reach the Eurovision final! Can they make it four in a row?
