While our very own Dominik is on location for the final of Melodifestivalen 2020, he spoke to Cyprus’ Sandro! Performed his entry “Running” the Melfest WKND event last night, having released it earlier in the day.
In the interview, he expresses his anxieties about the reception to the song prior to the release. He informs us that the song is about his struggles with anxiety and depression, holding a very personal message to him. He also stresses the importance of being open about your fears and your problems in order to heal.

About Sandro
Alessandro H. Rütten, who performs as Sandro [Nicholas], was born in Heinsberg, Germany. He is of Greek-American decent, but grew up in Germany, where his career began.
In 2018, Sandro auditioned for the eighth season of The Voice of Germany with Shawn Mendes’ “In My Blood”. We wow’d all four judges, but decided to be mentored by Mark Forster. He was then eliminated in the sing-off round.
The following year, Sandro got his first taste of international competition when he represented the United States in New Wave in Sochi, Russia. He ended up finishing in 5th place, with Albania’s Inis Neziri (Festivali i Këngës 56) winning the contest.
Later last year, it was announced that Sandro would be representing Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. He will be competing in the first half of the first semi-final in Rotterdam with the song “Running”. The song was written and composed by Alfie Arcuri, Sebastian Rickards, Octavian Rasinariu, Sandro, Teo DK. As previously reported his performance will be staged by Marvin Dietmann.
