KAN launches tender for Israel’s Eurovision 2019 selection

Production companies and broadcasters can bid to partner for the Israeli selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2019

KAN, the Israeli national broadcaster, have launched a tender process for production companies and broadcasters wishing to partner for the Eurovision 2019 Israel national selection.
The broadcaster have outlined the main criteria for the project:

  • The show must be broadcast over a number of months in a prime time slot
  • The selection of the Israeli artist must be completed by January 2019
  • The selected channel must produce a variety of content with the selection promoted over multiple platforms

KAN is also looking for potential broadcasters to commit to supplementary programming around the selection process.
Keshet are the first names expected to bid for the Israeli selection process. They have been responsible for “The Next Star”, which since it’s introduction in 2015 has delivered grand final qualifying artists for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Reshet are also speculated to be a potential bidder for the selection process. The broadcaster currently holds the rights for The X Factor Israel, which could be turned into the selection show for Israel. Only recently Malta announced for the first time it would use it’s X Factor show as the selection for their Eurovision entry.

Should Israel stick to ‘The Next Star’ to select their Eurovision entry or try something new? Would X Factor be a good option?
