🇸🇪 SVT reveals hosts for Melodifestivalen 2021

Early December 2020, Swedish broadcaster SVT revealed the candidates to participate in Melodifestivalen 2021. Although we still don’t know how the candidates will be divided into the semi finals, we received another announcement on 5 January: the hosts! Continue reading if you want to know who they are.

Different hosts for each show

As we all know, we will get to see six shows in this Melodifestivalen journey. four semi finals, a second chance round and the grand final.

Deltävling 1: Lena Philipsson

Lena Philipsson will host semi final 1. We remember her from when she represented Sweden in Eurovision 2004 with the song “It Hurts”. She finished 5th with 170 points. Apart from this Eurovision entry, Lena participated multiple times in Melodifestivalen and her songs transformed into beloved classics in Sweden.

Deltävling 2: Anis Don Demina & Oscar Zia

This hosting task will bring Anis Don Demina on the Melodifestivalen stage for the fourth time. In 2018, he made his debut on stage with Samir & Viktor as saxofon player. In 2019 and 2020 he participated as the main act. His ”Mina bränder”, which he sang together with Zeana, wasn’t a huge success. However, “Vem E Som Oss” came 5th in the Melodifestivalen 2020-grand final and also became a monsterhit in Sweden.

Anis will be accompanied by Oscar Zia in semi final 2. He has two participations behind his name so far. In 2016 he was among the big favourites to win Melodifestivalen. He then participated with “Human”.

Deltävling 3: Jason Diakité

His name might not sound too familiar among the Europeans, because hosting Melodifestivalen is completely new for Jason Diakité. He became famous in Sweden by writing books. Lately, he wrote family autobiography “A Drop Of Midnight”. Apart from being an author, he also made songs that became hits in Sweden such as Alla vill till himlen men få vill ju dö” och ”Resten av ditt liv”.

Deltävling 4: Per Andersson

Per Andersson is one of our most brilliant humor stars. He has entertained the Swedish people for several decades, on stage and in numerous TV programs such as the Christmas Calendar, Parliament and not least the Melodifestivalen. As an entertainer in Mello, he has left his mark, among other things, as a member of the humor collective Grotesco and as the artists’ strictly quirky interrogator together with Katrin Sundberg at the Melodifestivalen 2011.

Andra Chansen: Shirley Clamp

It took a few years before the Borås girl with gold in her throat had to stand at the front of the Mello stage. After driving behind Antique (ESC 2001), and Hanna and Lina (2002), Shirley Clamp herself stepped into the spotlight in 2003 with the song Mr Memory. In 2004, she again performed as a solo artist and performed “Min Karlek” which became her breakthrough for the general public. Since then, she has competed in 2005 (“To Love You”), 2009 (“With Her Heart Filled with Light”) and 2011 as part of the trio Shirley’s Angels. In 2009, Shirley Clamp together with Edward af Sillén was the Swedish commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Grand Final: Måns Zelmerlöw & Shima Niavarani

Måns made his Melodifestivalen debut in 2007 with “Cara Mia”, which is still loved among the Swedish audience. Hosting Melodifestivalen is not new to him either, because he already did it in 2010. Five years later, he returned to the contest as a singer with “Heroes”. We all know how that journey finished, because he won the entire Eurovision Song Contest of 2015 with it.

Måns will share the stage with Shima Niavarani. She is an actress, presenter, playwright, director, conference, singer and songwriter. Right now, Shima is currently in “Stjärnorna på slottet”. In 2021 it’s time for her to make her debut on the Melodifestival stage.

Last but not least, Christer Björkman is going to join the hosts during every show.

What we already know about Melodifestivalen 2021

Due COVID-19, Melodifestivalen will stay in Stockholm during the entire journey, instead of making a tour around Sweden. 28 entries will participate over six Saturdays in February and March 2021. We don’t know the exact distribution of the semi finals yet, but we keep you up to date!
