🇫🇮 Saara Aalto announces her marriage to Meri Sopanen

The couple married in the Finnish capital city, Helsinki

2018 Finnish Eurovision representative, Saara Aalto, has announced that she has married her fiancée Meri Aalto, née Sopanen. The couple got married during a private registry in Helsinki. They plan to hold a full ceremony in the near future.

The couple were due to get married this summer in Europe, but were forced to cancel the ceremony due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Prior to their marriage, the singer was engaged to Meri for three and a half years.

Despite having to cancel the wedding ceremony, Saara explained that she wanted to show her love to Meri and continue with the marriage.

The former X Factor UK star continues to say that their marriage was “perfect” during these difficult times:

When we had to postpone the wedding we were heartbroken, but then we realised we could still hold a private registration and celebrate our love together. It was the perfect moment.

Podcasts, singing classes & online concerts!

On social media, Saara explained that Meri wanted to take the surname Aalto as they will work together on projects using the name. The first project announced by the couple is a new podcast titled “No Fear -Rohkeampi minä”. The podcast will launch on 2nd May, and will cover the couple’s “dreams, success, wellbeing and struggles of life”.

She also announced a new online school that will launch with a five-week online “singing masterclass”. The class will be aimed at both beginners and professional singers. The classes will be guided with training from Saara herself.

Finally, to celebrate Saara’s birthday weekend, the singer will hold an online concert from home – “Queens Live”. This will be held on 1st May at 20:00 CEST (21:00 Finnish time). She explains that:

This livestream concert is the perfect opportunity for me to commemorate something so special and mark the occasion with everybody who has supported me publicly for so many years.

Saara Aalto at the Eurovision Song Contest

Oulunsalo-born singer, Saara Aalto, is no stranger to Eurovision. In 2011, Saara took part in Finland’s Eurovision national final, Euroviisut, with the song “Blessed with Love”. She finished in second place with 40.7% of the final vote, only 6% behind eventual winner Paradise Oskar. She attempted to represent the country again at the contest in 2016, with the song “No Fear”. Again, she placed second at the national final behind Sandhja.

In 2017, Saara was internally selected by Finnish broadcaster Yle to represent Finland at Eurovision 2018 in Lisbon. She performed three songs at the national final, with “Monsters” being voted as the winner. At Eurovision, Saara made the final and finished in 25th place with 46 points. It was Finland’s best result at the contest since 2014.
