Ilse DeLange teases solo Eurovision return for The Netherlands

Ilse, alongside Waylon as The Common Linnets, finished second in the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest

Despite initially being one of the outsiders to win the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest, Ilse DeLange and Waylon gave The Netherlands a fantastic second place finish. While Waylon left The Common Linnets shortly after the contest, Ilse continued with the project. Waylon returned as a solo artist for The Netherlands in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest and now Ilse DeLange has teased a return to the contest for herself!

“I’ll never say never”

In a recent interview with RTL news, Ilse was asked the question as to whether she would ever return to the Eurovision Song Contest. While she believes it is good to see new artists given the opportunity for the first time, Ilse refused to rule out a return if such an opportunity was given to her.

You know, never say never. I think it’s good to see some new faces as well, but I’ll never say never.

Ten number one albums!

Ilse released her first album in 1998 titled World of Hurt. The album went five times platinum in The Netherlands, hitting the #1 spot in the process. Six more studio albums have followed, with five topping the Dutch albums chart. Furthermore, two of Ilse’s live albums have also become chart-toppers! Then, when factoring in the two number one albums achieved by The Common Linnets, Ilse has a remarkable ten #1 albums to her name… impressive!
After spending all her time on The Common Linnets since 2014, Ilse is now releasing her first solo album in six years with the self-titled Ilse DeLange due for release on August 31st. Furthermore, she released her first solo single in five years back in March. OK has charted inside the top 40 of the official Dutch singles chart.
Furthermore, back in May, Ilse featured on a brand new duet version of You Are The Reason with British singer Calum Scott. Since the original version’s release back in November, the track has become a moderate worldwide hit for the former Britain’s Got Talent finalist. The original duet version with Leona Lewis also received significant airplay worldwide earlier this year.

Following in Waylon’s footsteps?

Ilse’s former The Common Linnets bandmate Waylon returned to the Eurovision Song Contest this year as he represented The Netherlands with the song Outlaw In ‘Em. While he was unable to repeat the impressive result achieved with Ilse four years earlier, he did once again take The Netherlands to the grand final. In the end, Outlaw In ‘Em secured 18th place. Furthermore, The World Can Wait, the album Waylon promoted alongside Eurovision, hit the top spot in the Dutch albums chart!

Perhaps its time for Ilse to see what she can achieve as a solo artist too?
