Fun!

An Xtra Happy Birthday; 15 July!

Greetings to Portugal, Norway, Croatia and Sweden!

Today we have four Eurostars to celebrate; two girls, two guys. Three of them are “one-timers” while the fourth a “repeat offender”. One performed in English, the other three in their native languages. Two of them did rather well in the contest, finishing top 10, while the other two finished right side of the scoreboard. One of them (very undeservedly) even finished last; Isaura!

Frank Ådahl, 58

Frank represented Sweden at the 1990 Eurovision Song Contest in Zagreb. He did so as part of the band Edin-Ådahl, performing the song “Som en vind”. They received a total of 24 points, thus finishing in 16th place out of 22 participants. He also tried his luck in Melodifestivalen in 1996, when he finished fifth with his song “Tårar från himlen”. He was also one of the backing vocalists behind Karoline Krüger when she represented Norway with “For vår jord” in the 1988 Eurovision.

Danijela, 47

Danijela Martinovic represented Croatia both at the 1995 and the 1998 Eurovision Song Contests. In 1995 she was part of the band Magazin. They performed the song “Nostalgija“, finishing in a very respectable 6th place. Three years later, Danijela returned to the Eurovision stage with the (post-contest) immensely popular “Neka mi ne svane”. This time she moved one slot up, placing 5th. Over the years, this song has won several fan votes for “best Eurovision entry ever”. If you want to see what Danijela has been up to since 98; find out here!

Carl Espen, 36

Carl Espen represented Norway at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen. He performed the song “Silent Storm”, written by his cousin Josefin Winther, in the second semi-final. There he finished sixth, thus qualifying for the grand final. On the Saturday night he received 88 points, thus finishing 8th.

Isaura, 29

Isaura represented Portugal at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest on home turf in Lisbon. She did so together with Claudia Pascoal, performing her own song “O jardim”. To her and everybody else’s surprise and disappointment, they finished last in the field of 26 songs. Some call this “the curse of the host country”, as we often see the host entries finish very close to the bottom of the list.

All of us here at escXtra wish today’s four Eurovision birhtday stars the most wonderful of birthdays!
