Fun!

An Xtra Happy Birthday; 1 August!

Greetings to Estonia and Moldova!

Yesterday, on the last day of July, we celebrated three Eurostars! On this first day of the new month we have two Eurovision birthdays ! One birthday girl, one birthday boy. One is from Estonia, the other from Moldova. One finished in 21st place at Eurovision, the other in 22nd. They are both born in the 80s, though at opposite ends of the decade.

Vaiko Eplik, 36

Vaiko represented Estonia at the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest in Riga. He is the lead singer and guitarist in the band Ruffus. They entered the Estonian preselection, Eurolaul, in 2003, with their song “Eighties Coming Back”. Originally they did this as a joke, so it came as a huge surprise to them when they won. At Eurovision they finished in 21st place out of 26 competing countries.

Olia Tira, 29

Olia Tira represented Moldova in the 2010 Eurovision in Oslo, together with the band Sunstroke Project. They performed the song “Run Away”, just making it to the final; they qualified in 10th place from the first semi. In the final, however, they only finished 22nd out of 25 participants. Olia wanted to go to Eurovision again in 2014, but she only finished 6th in the Moldovan preselection, O melodie pentru Europa. Back then she participated under the stage name FLUX LIGHT, with the song “Never Stop No“. When Sunstroke Project returned to Eurovision in 2017, it was without Olia Tira.

All of us here at escXtra hope that both Vaiko and Olia have the most wonderful Xtra super happy birthdays ever!!
