Junior Eurovision: FYR Macedonia’s MRT looking for entries

As Junior Eurovision draws closer, countries begin to select artists and songs. FYR Macedonia is now looking for potential entries.

Selection in two steps

The selection for FYR Macedonia’s entrant for Minsk will involve two steps: the selection of the singer(s) and the selection of the song for the artist(s). Individuals potentially interested in representing the country have until next Thursday (August 16th) to submit their names to the broadcaster. This can be done via email at [email protected]. After that, MRT will hold an expert panel hearing session on August 18th at the end of which the entrant for Minsk will be chosen. Instead, the song will be selected within 15 days of said date and MRT hopes to choose the right song for the selected entrant. More information on the rules can be found here (in Macedonian).

FYR Macedonia in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest

With 14 appearances FYR Macedonia only lags behind The Netherlands and Belarus in terms of number of appearances. The country missed out twice, in 2012 due to financial difficulties of the broadcaster and in 2014. Despite the many appearances, however, the country hasn’t managed to win the trophy just yet. The best results they achieved so far are two 5th places in 2007 and 2008 by Rosica Kulakova and Dimitar Stojmenovski and Bobi Andonov respectively. Since then, their results at the contest have been frail and they haven’t managed to place better than 12th ever since. Interestingly, they placed 12th in 6 of the past 7 contests they took part to. In 2017, Mina Blazev flew the country’s flag at the contest with her entry “Dancing through life”. She too came 12th with 69 points.
