Vienna 2015

Australia to compete in Vienna; voting in all three shows

The European Broadcasting Union has just released, and yes we did make sure it wasn’t April Fools Day, the news that Australia will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015. SBS, the Australian broadcaster, has released this video to confirm it.

Australia will compete in the Grand Final as a guest member of the Big 6 and become the 40th nation to compete in the 60th anniversary contest in Vienna, Austria.
The EBU press release stated the following:

Australia will be allowed to vote in both Semi-Finals, as well as the Grand Final. Along a professional jury, possibilities are currently being explored to allow the public to have a 50 percent stake in the Australian vote via televoting.

It was also confirmed that the remaining 39 nations will be able to vote for Australia, just the same as any other competing nation in the Final.
SBS will reveal the artist and song to represent them in the near future.
All of this is intended as a one-off participation in order to celebrate Australia’s love for the contest and the fact that it is such a momentous anniversary in the contest’s history. However, it was also confirmed that should Australia win, the contest would be co-hosted by SBS in a European city alongside an EBU Member Broadcaster and if they win, Australia will again send a participant to the contest next year.
