Rehearsal review

Rehearsing right now for the second time inside the Rotterdam Ahoy is Hooverphonic performing “The Wrong Place” for Belgium. We will continue to update this article as each run through takes place, so make sure to keep refreshing for the most up-to-date review!

Firstly, remind yourselves what happened in the first rehearsal:

And now here is what we’ve noticed in today’s second rehearsal:

Hooverphonic know what they are doing with their staging. It is fairly simple and dark, as we already saw on Saturday. Geike Arnaert is enjoying herself a whole lot more this time around and delivers a good smile at the end of the run through.

We see the singer in the middle of her band. The band members are all around her, each on a platform, with Geike simply standing on the floor. The images of her face on the LED screens came across as quite intense on Saturday, but it actually looks really good today and it’s making sense.

What we are seeing is a lot of work with the steady cam and a good amount of close-ups. Basically, this is a typical Hans Pannecoucke staging. There are elements of The Common Linnets-like camera shots and staging ideas here. The expressions on Geike’s face will definitely help. She throws looks into the camera to bring her message across, like Don’t you ever dare to wear my Johnny Cash T-Shirt – that line is delivered with excellence and quality.
