New Music Friday – this week with Daði Freyr, Jessica Mauboy, The Mamas & more!

Ten of the best new songs from Eurovision artists!

Another week comes to an end and that means it’s New Music Friday! So it’s time to share the best new releases from the Eurovision world this week. Over the following pages is everything you need to know for your weekend playlists!

Daði Freyr – ‘Something Magical’

First up on New Music Friday is Daði Freyr with ‘Something Magical’ this festive season. Since the Rotterdam contest, the ‘Think About Things‘ and ‘10 Years‘ crooner has featured on the Christmas gaming stocking fillers Just Dance 2022 and Psychonauts 2. Now he follows up last year’s holiday single ‘Every Moment Is Christmas With You‘ with his witty take on Christmas. Blending a bit of novelty and his typical retro synths, ‘Something Magical’ reminds us why we enjoy the routines and rituals that feel as though they return to us quicker every year.

Jessica Mauboy – ‘Glow’

From Down Under, Australia’s 2018 ‘We Got Love‘ singer Jessica Mauboy, returns with her latest single ‘Glow’. Although it’s been two years since the release of fourth album HILDA, Jess has kept busy coaching the next generation of talent on The Voice Australia. Now it’s time for a glow up of her own, to remind us all what she does best! New single ‘Glow’ is a soulful take on the 80s that speaks to Jess finding her freedom since departing labels from Sony to Warner, as well as freedom of expression post-lockdowns and coming of age as an artist at this stage of her career. Meanwhile you can buy tickets to the Boss Lady 2022 tour here.

Glow is like buying the most expensive champagne. That’s what it feels like and that’s my honest truth. It felt like I had spent the most time and effort with this song, so I was just sitting with it. It’s like sipping your favourite drink and you don’t want to scull it.

Jessica Mauboy, (Grazia)

Kate Miller-Heidke – ‘I Am My Own Panther Now’

Another Australian with new music for us this week is ‘Zero Gravity‘ sensation, Kate Miller-Heidke. After soaring to new heights (literally!) in Tel Aviv, the Queensland native is back on Earth and has delighted fans during lockdown with the release of recent album Child In Reverse. As well as keeping every guessing and entertained as The Queen on The Masked Singer Australia. Now Kate is back in the TV world, with ‘I Am My Own Panther Now’ – from the new comedy series Preppers on ABC TV. Always exploring her eclectic depth of music range, this novelty track, with hints of Opera, suits the tone of the show perfectly. Which Kate herself also stars in with her new wild cat form.

The Mamas – ‘Won’t Let The Sun Go Down (EP)’

Over the past few weeks we have seen The Mamas showcase their individuality with the run of solo releases, ‘Say So’, ‘Just A Little’ and ‘Don’t Kill The Groove’. Much like their Christmas EP last year, ‘All I Want For December‘, the ladies each have their moments to shine, before bringing it back together in one gift for us all. In the end The Mamas are a team and that is reflected in their vocal work in each other’s songs, as well as the gospel joy in their group tracks. Each song is a message of hope, from the tropical-tinged ‘Sun Go Down’ through to the heartbreak anthem, ‘Let You Go’.
