🇵🇱 Poland confirm Eurovision 2022 participation

The broadcaster hopes to begin preparations in the Autumn

The Director of Polish broadcaster TVP has confirmed their Eurovision 2022 participation. Mr Kurski hopes to begin preparations for the contest in the Autumn. This news follows the Polish Musicians Union calling for TVP to focus on Polish songwriters for Eurovision back in July.

As reported by Jastrząb Post, TVP Director Jacek Kurski has confirmed via a video interview that Poland will participate in Eurovision 2022, due to be hosted in Italy. In response to questions about the selection method, he responded with the following:

We don’t know yet, but we want to start these preparations earlier. The problem lately has been that very unsatisfactory proposals have just been sent (to TVP).

He added that he hopes preparations for the contest will begin in August. It is suggested that the broadcaster may opt for a national final following the internal-select of Rafał Brzozowski this year. This confirmation follows calls from the Polish Musicians Union to prioritise Polish songwriters, rather than international teams.

Poland at Eurovision 2021

Last year, TVP ran a two-stage national final Szansa na sukces in order to select their Eurovision 2020 entry. The Voice of Poland 10 winner Alicja Szemplińska went on to win the selection with “Empires”. She was due to perform in the first half of the second semi-final, prior to the cancellation of the contest.

In 2021, TVP opted to not re-select Alicja for Eurovision 2021. Instead, Rafał Brzozowski was internally-selected to represent Poland in Rotterdam with “The Ride”. He failed to qualify from the second semi-final, placing 14th with 35 points, marking Poland’s third consecutive non-qualification.
