RTE open submissions for Eurovision 2024 – but are we set to see changes in the process?

Irish broadcaster RTE have opened the song submission portal for Eurovision 2023, with a few subtle changes that are sure to get fans both in and outside Ireland talking.

As per last year’s process, any prospective Irish entry must send RTE their entry via an online portal (https://www.rte.ie/tv/programmes/1247211-submit-your-entry-to-the-eurovision-song-contest-2024/) and all the rules and conditions are listed on the portal page, but there are some subtle changes compared to last year that have left some intrigued.

Firstly, the portal will be open for three months, which is vastly longer than the submission portal was open for last year.

Secondly, there may be signs that next year’s selection show will not be on the Late Late Show like it has in the past. Firstly, there is no pictures or branding on the portal page related to the Late Late Show, and secondly there is no mention of the chosen songs being performed on The Late Late Show in any wording on the portal page.

That paragraph instead says “A shortlist of songs and attached performers will subsequently be invited to perform on television early in 2024 when a winner will be selected to represent Ireland in accordance with a selection process to be confirmed by RTÉ.”

Regardless, nothing about the selection process has been confirmed by RTE itself, so fans will have to wait and see what transpires early next year.
