“HEARTS, LOVES AND BABYS” to come out on 24 August

Save the date! On 24 August, Katrina will release her new album “HEARTS, LOVES AND BABYS”. The album will include brand new songs! To give away a preview of that new album, something else will come out this month. Anyone who can’t wait to hear the album, can already get a sneak peak on 24 July. On that day, Katrina has a new single for you called “DRIVE”.

Postponing due to COVID-19

If you follow Katrina on Instagram, you might know that she planned to release her album back in spring. Due to COVID-19 and next up the lockdown, some studio sessions needed to get postponed. Therefore, Katrina needed some more time for some little finishing touches. Therefore, she moved the release date to this summer. And here we are! We now have concrete dates and we only have to count down for the album to come. Who’s excited?

Katrina Leskanich at the Eurovision Song Contest

In 1997, Katrina & The Waves participated in the Great British Song Contest. This show used to be the British national selection for Eurovision between 1996 and 1999. The band won and grabbed the ticket to Dublin. “Love Shine A Light”, written by Kimberley Rew, was actually meant for charity aimed “Samartians”. The members of Samartians pointed out that the song had potential to win the Eurovision Song Contest, and so the band submitted the song at the very last minute.

On 3 May 1997, Katrina & The Waves performed in 24th (second to last) spot. After a brilliant performance, all they could do was waiting for the voting. With a total of 227 points, Katrina & The Waves won and they also a new record number of points. To date, “Love Shine A Light” is still the fifth and last winning entry for the United Kingdom. The song has become an evergreen and couldn’t be left out at Eurovision events.
