Andorra last participated in the contest in 2009

Susanne Georgi, who represented Andorra at Eurovision 2009, has spoke out on Instagram about Andorra’s involvement in the Eurovision Song Contest. She has said that she is “still 100% determined” for Andorra to return to the contest in 2022.

Last year, Georgi said in a podcast that she had received a “verbal green light” from the Andorran government and broadcaster RTVA to take part in Eurovision 2022. However, in recent weeks, it has seemed that this decision might have changed with Eurofestivales reporting that Andorra would not be taking part in next year’s contest in Italy.

“Trying to find a perfect solution”

After RTVE said they had “no record” of speaking to Georgi about a return to the contest, the Danish-born singer took to Instagram to share her thoughts. She said that she has “big hopes and faith” in the Andorran government, while she is “trying to find a perfect solution for a return”.

In an interview last year, the former Eurovision artist said that she had secured funding for Andorra to return to Eurovision. She later added that the government were “very positive” regarding a return to the contest to help promote Andorran artists. Since then, no further plans have been announced by either RTVA or the government.

Despite confirming their intentions not to participate to Eurofestivales, no official announcement regarding Eurovision 2022 has yet been made by the Andorran broadcaster.

Andorra at the Eurovision Song Contest

Andorra first made their Eurovision debut in 2004. Marta Roure represented the country with “Jugarem a estimar-nos” and finished 18th in the semi-final, with 12 points. They also failed to make the final in 2005.

It wasn’t until 2006 that Andorra internally selected an entry to take part in the contest. Jenny became the first internally-selected act, in Athens. Her song “Sense tu” finished last in the semi-final with 8 points – Andorra’s worst result to date. Andorra’s best result came in 2007 with Anonymous’ “Salvem el món” which finished 12th in the semi-final.

Their most recent participation was in Moscow, in 2009. Susanne Georgi represented the microstate with “La teva decisio (Get a Life)”. The broadcaster decided not to return to the 2010 contest due to financial issues. They have not returned to the contest since.

Would you like to see Andorra return to the contest? Do you think Susanne Georgi will get Andorra back on the Eurovision stage?
