Rotterdam 2021🇧🇪 Belgium

🇧🇪 Hooverphonic’s Eurovision 2021 entry is “already ready”

A change in genre from 2020?

Hooverphonic’s Alex Callier has confirmed in an interview with HLN that their Eurovision entry for next year is “already ready”. The group were set to represent Belgium at this year’s contest in Rotterdam with “Release Me”, before the contest was cancelled.

Just days after the contest’s cancellation in March, VRT and RTBF announced that Hooverphonic would be given another chance to represent Belgium in 2021. In a change of genre from their 2020 entry, it’s thought that the group will send a more upbeat number to next year’s contest.

“We made good use of our time”

After already releasing their “retro” summer song – “Summer Sun” – in June, Alex Callier said that during the “bizarre summer”, they have prepared material for more upcoming albums.

Despite the bizarre summer, we made good use of our time. I think I already have material for three new albums. We are now selecting: choice stress!

– Alex Callier, speaking to HLN

Currently, no release date has been revealed for their 2021 entry. This year, they released their entry, “Release Me”, in late February – could we be seeing a similar release date from Hooverphonic in 6 months’ time?

Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020

On 1 October 2019, it was revealed that Hooverphonic would represent Belgium at Eurovision 2020, set to be held in Rotterdam. Their song, “Release Me”, which was written by band member Alex Callier alongside Luca Chiaravalli, was then released in February.

Despite becoming a top 30 hit in both the Flanders and Wallonia charts, the song didn’t get its chance to shine on the Eurovision stage after the contest was cancelled for the first time in its 65-year history, amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
