Zurich for Eurovision 2025?

Already, Geneva became the first Swiss city to offer their interest in hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. Now it’s the turn of Zurich to put forward their hosting credentials to the EBU. In a recent report by Swiss media outlet Le Temps, Switzerland’s largest city wants to bring the contest to Zurich next May. A spokesperson for the city stated that a bid to host Eurovision 2025 will be considered, “with high priority.” This will be presented to broadcaster SSR once the official bidding process opens. A meeting to discuss the hosting proposal was held by the city according to local media reports.

In terms of venues, Zurich has the recently opened, Swiss Life Arena in Altstetten. The venue boasts a capacity of 12,000 and is typically the home of the local ZSC Lions ice hockey team. The modern, multifunctional space meets the requirements of the contest, including ensuring the ceiling height is above 18m for the rigging of lighting and technical equipment. Elsewhere in the Oerlikon quarter, there is the Hallenstadion. The previous home of the ZSC Lions was opened in 1939. It has a capacity of 13,000 and clears the minimum ceiling height requirement.
