The latest artist to rehearse is Cesár Sampson. We have just watched his first run through of Nobody But You live on screen and here is our initial reaction.

Staging

The performance starts with Cesár on his knees, lit from only one side. At one point you can’t see his body and he literally looks like a floating head which is kind of disturbing. Then the lights come up and he is stood on some sort of….HUGE platform which is covered in lights on the underside, it’s almost like a UFO. The platform eventually lowers and there are lots of bright lights from behind him, giving an almost angelic effect! In the last chorus there’s some rather strange effects with Cesár being cut in half, which I’m not sure really fits…

Vocals

As expected, Cesár’s vocals are flawless, and the backing vocals ace the choir-esque effect! There isn’t much else to say than that, it sounds exactly as it does in the studio version, fantastic job Cesár!

Costumes

Cesár is wearing all black, his top is fabric in the lower half and then leather in the upper half – he looks…rather…appealing in it, if you catch my drift. The backing singers are hidden and you don’t ever see them so they’re probably just wearing all black. It’s simple, but it looks great and it really works.
