Jamala premieres video for new single ‘The Great Pretender’

A few days ago, Ukraine’s 2016 winner Jamala premiered the new music video for the English-language single ‘The Great Pretender’. The Great Pretender Jamala is back with another English-language single, her first since ‘I Believe in U’! The singer wrote the song herself along with Mariya Kvintil. In this track, the singer shows off something different from what we saw in 2016. Despite being an upbeat song, the song discusses a rather more serious topic–people who are “pretenders”, not showing who they really are or what they really feel. When talking about the inspiration behind the song, Jamala said: The more I watch people, the more I understand that each of us is a bundle of contradictions. We all strive for something genuine, real, but at the same time society, the environment, the state, and all of modern civilization impose on us the rules of the game. The strongest go ahead, often burning prematurely. But most people adapt, wear masks, and pretend to be who something they are not, in order to succeed in life or achieve a goal. They are all great pretenders! Anna Buryachkova, who is a well known director in Ukraine, was the director for the song’s music video. The video was …

Kaliopi moves with new single “Presuda”

This morning, Kaliopi released her latest single. The Macedonian singer has also released an official video to go with Presuda, her first single since December 2016. Working with your ex? It can sometimes be said that working with your ex is not the best possible idea in the world. However, for Kaliopi, it actually works. Her latest single has once again been composed by Romeo Grill. The duo were once married and ended their collaborations in music after the divorce. They then reunited when Kaliopi went on her first actual Eurovision adventure in 2012. Ever since, Grill has composed songs for her again. “Judgement” Kaliopi’s new single “Presuda” can be translated into English as “Judgement’. The song is more subtle than some of her previous work, such as ‘Crno I Belo”. At 51 years of age, Kaliopi is showing the world that she still knows how to impress vocally. Like we’ve seen at the Eurovision Song Contest, Kaliopi’s voice is something that makes you listen to her songs. Especially those high notes leave an impression. Kaliopi’s mixed Eurovision fortune The Macedonian singer has had the honour of representing her country three times at the Eurovision Song Contest. Sadly for her, the …

Elena Risteska returns with “Snage za kraj”

Elena Risteska is back with new music! “Snage za kraj” is a beautiful mid-tempo track  written by a fellow Eurovision participant. Listen to the song and check out the music video here. Finding the strength to end things “Snage za kraj” starts off as a ballad with delicate production. However, from the first chorus onwards, it becomes increasingly mid-tempo with a heavy background beat. Moreover, Elena’s vocals are very strong and fitting to the tone of the song. In addition, the song speaks about an important issue: having the strength to end something. The lyrics narrate a man who’s got a wandering eye, and everyone knows. Unfortunately, she looks the other way while she gets the strength to end things. The music video reflects this theme well. In the ending scene, Elena sees the guy up close with another woman. Instead of confronting him, they leave together. Written by fellow Eurovision star Most noteworthy about the song is that it isn’t sung in Macedonian. Instead, Elena sings the song in Serbian. If you take a quick look at who the songwriter is, this will make sense. Sergej Ćetković penned the song. Sergej represented Montenegro in Eurovision 2014 with the song …
